Accents of Nature designed and built this new pond on a sloped side-yard. The homeowners also asked for a renovation plan to replace an existing concrete patio and add a built-in grill. Here's photos of the finished project:

Summer on the Rooftop Garden

What better environment to prove the mettle of some of our favorite water-wise, drought-tolerant plants than a scorching hot rooftop garden?
Picture
Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus') and Alum Root (Heuchera villosa 'Autumn Bride').  Both plants are native to the Eastern United States. Coneflowers are a favorite food source for finches; the seedpods may be left on the stem to dry - also providing winter interest in the garden.
Picture
Adam's Needle (Yucca filamentosa 'Color Guard') and Little Bluestem Grasses (Schizachyrium scoparium 'Standing Ovation'). Yucca is native in the southeastern United States and is evergreen. Bluestem Grass is native to prairies all across North America, the 'Standing Ovation' cultivar is noted for its flop-resistant upright habit.
Picture
Kalimeris incisa 'Blue Star' and Blue Fescue (Festuca glauca 'Elijah Blue'). While neither of these plants are natives they are not without merit! Each thrives in hot, dry, poor soils. The 'Blue Star' Kalimeris is a reliable mid-summer bloomer (its aster-like flowers are just getting started here), and the 'Elijah Blue' Fescue persists as a tidy blue-grey clump all year providing great winter interest when other perennial grasses are dry and brown.

Rooftop Memorial Garden

10/19/2016

Accents of Nature was invited by a prominent Wilmington legal firm to submit a design  for a memorial garden to be constructed on a mezzanine level roof deck. We were awarded the project, and provided a quick turnaround from final approval to completed construction. It was a fun design challenge, considering the logistics of building on a roof and selecting plants suitable for the harsh environment - check out some photos of the project:

As part of a comprehensive landscape renovation of the entire property, Accents of Nature constructed a handsome new brick and bluestone entrance stoop for this federal-style home in New Castle County, Delaware. We worked with the homeowners to select suitable containers, and installed a vibrant burst of annual plantings with a seasonal drip irrigation system.
